MOVIE NEWS – Even Avengers: Endgame and James Cameron’s Avatar couldn’t set the record that Dune: Part Two managed…
With its IMDB rating of 9.4, Dune: Part Two soars where even The Avengers and Avatar couldn’t! Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi sequel has written itself into the history books with a 9.4 average rating on IMDB, the highest-ever rating on the famous critic’s site. With this astronomical rating, the film surpassed previous records such as Avengers: Endgame (8.4) and Avatar (7.8). This earned him the coveted first place.
Dune: Part Two’s 9.4 average on IMDB is ahead of classics like The Godfather, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Dark Knight, all of which are between 9.1 and 9.3.
(Another recent newcomer, FX’s new Shogun series, is also currently sitting at a 9.3.) Meanwhile, Avengers: Endgame received an 8.4 and Avatar 7.9. These films are excellent but fall short of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi vision.
According to IMDB, another critic rated Dune 2 – 10/10. Regarding box office receipts, Endgame is the second-highest-grossing film of all time with $2.8 billion, while Avatar leads the all-time list with $2.9 billion. Meanwhile, Villeneuve’s original Dune film grossed a modest $400 million worldwide.
However, Dune resonated deeply with critics and fans. The first Dune movie was rated 8.1 on IMDB and won 6 Oscars. The second part received even better reviews (from us, too – see here) for its emotional weight and visual splendour. To overwhelming critical acclaim, it has an average rating of 9.4 on IMDB.
In contrast, the Avengers and Avatar films were dismissed by some critics as entertaining but superficial upon release. Although audiences widely loved them, they did not achieve the same level of critical acclaim as the Dune sequel.
