MOVIE NEWS – The new movie’s release date has also been announced, but before that we can still enjoy the Super Mario games coming to Nintendo Switch.

 

 

People are smiling again, with many new announcements regarding the franchise’s future on Mario Day! A few months ago, we said that the next Super Mario Bros. movie is not expected any time soon. But with the end of the writer’s strike and thanks to Nintendo’s executives, we finally have some good news.

In a video uploaded to Nintendo’s YouTube channels, Shigeru Miyamoto talked about the upcoming developments of the successful and long-standing Mario franchise.

He pointed out that Nintendo and Illumination are already “creating a new animated film from the world of Super Mario Bros.” It is scheduled to be “released on April 3, 2026, in the United States and several additional markets worldwide,” according to a statement on the official website.

The film will be produced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri and Nintendo representative Director Miyamoto. The directors will be Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, while the script is written by Matthew Fogel. The new film is financed by Nintendo itself and Universal Pictures.

 

What can we expect from Nintendo’s new Super Mario movie?

 

The Japanese company also confirms that “Nintendo continues to strive to create unique entertainment and bring it to as many people as possible.” Illumination will continue its partnership with Nintendo and “bring a distinctive combination of joy and discovery to people of all ages around the world, allowing them to connect with the beloved characters and stories of one of the world’s most popular franchises.”

Miyamoto also noted that “Super Mario Bros. The Movie, released last spring, will continue to captivate audiences this winter and into the new year. The Illumination team is working with Nintendo to produce this new movie.” Meledandri also said a few words, congratulated him on Mario Day, and expressed gratitude for the new opportunity.

“Our directors, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, as well as the talented artists of Illumination Studios Paris, are already in the middle of sketching the script and slowly designing the new sets. We will start animation soon, and we will pay attention to every detail to make it perfect,” said the CEO of Illumination.

Returning to Shigeru Miyamoto, Miyamoto said that they still have plans to “expand the world of Mario even further” and that includes video games.

 

Dates for Mario games coming to Switch

 

In the video below, news was also given about the next games in the Mario series and their characters for the Nintendo Switch. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (2024), a GameCube remake for Switch. With improved graphics and a story in which we have to discover an incredible treasure. The game will be released on May 23, 2024.

The other title we have to talk about is Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, which debuts on June 27, 2024. This creation brings back Mario’s brother to explore haunted mansions in a version that has improved graphics compared to the original release on 3DS in 2013.
