Pentiment has received a recent patch that addresses a noticeable framerate discrepancy between the Xbox and PlayStation versions.
Pentiment, a first-party Xbox game, has received a new patch to bring its framerate settings on par with the PlayStation 5 version. When Pentiment was released on PlayStation consoles, fans quickly noticed that the framerate was higher than the Xbox version. This has caused some legitimate discontent among Microsoft fans. Responding to player feedback, Obsidian Entertainment promptly released an update that fixes this discrepancy.
The adventure role-playing game Pentiment is one of the first Xbox titles to receive a multiplatform release as part of Microsoft’s recent promotion.
The community expressed surprise when an internal Xbox game technically ran better on a competitor’s machine. Obsidian Entertainment immediately responded and released the Pentiment 1.3 patch, as announced on the company’s official Twitter account. This update enables 120 FPS for Xbox Series X. This puts it on par with the PlayStation 5 version. When players noticed that the game ran better on the PlayStation 5 than the Xbox Series, Obsidian Entertainment director Josh Sawyer stated that the problem was due to a bug.
Patch 1.3 also fixes the High Contrast accessibility option, which was not working as intended. The update includes major changes, such as updated icons for the PlayStation and Switch versions and updated controller graphics for the former. Finally, it fixes the name of the platinum trophy on PlayStation 5, which was a strange oversight on the part of the developer.
Microsoft acquired Obsidian Entertainment in 2018. Before that, it was an indie developer, and most of its games were multiplatform. In February of this year, Xbox Games Studios launched a new commercial strategy. Part of this includes releasing Xbox first-party games on other platforms sometime after their initial release. Along with Pentiment, another Obsidian Entertainment game coming to various platforms is the survival action-adventure game Grounded. Tango Gameworks and Rare’s Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves will follow suit shortly.
As for the future, Obsidian Entertainment is preparing Avowed, the highly anticipated action-adventure role-playing game set in the world of Pillars of Eternity.
