Zack Snyder Surprised By The Divisive Reviews Of Rebel Moon – Is The Director’s Cut Coming?!

MOVIE NEWS – Zack Snyder has nothing to say to those criticizing Rebel Moon…

There is just over a month left until the release of Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver, but Zack Snyder is back in the news. Empire asked the director about the strong negative reactions to the first part. As often happens with the filmmaker, he didn’t want to keep his mouth shut and put his hands up. Here is his self-conscious response:

“I don’t really have a rebuttal to the reviews,” he tells Empire. “For whatever reason, the reaction to my movies is very polarizing, and it always has been. The movie, it doesn’t seem like there’s that much in it that would warrant such visceral reactions.” – said the popular filmmaker, without wanting to talk about the critics’ opinions. Beyond that, we wonder if he’ll change his mind with the next releases of the saga, including the Director’s Cut, which he hopes will be released this summer.

It’s true that few Zack Snyder movies haven’t divided audiences.

After all, there is a more than prominent group of fans who have received his films with great enthusiasm and passion. Then there’s another one that scolds them almost by default. However, there were a few things in the director’s latest work that divided fans as well. Starting with the perhaps rushed pace of character introduction. The latter will hopefully be fixed in the Director’s Cut.

What does Zack Snyder promise about the director’s cut of Rebel Moon?

Kurt Johnstad, the screenwriter of Rebel Moon, wanted to talk about this alternative line-up in a December interview with THR. In it, the writer explained that, in many ways, four films were shot at the same time.

“There’s definitely a lot more story at the front of the movie. You’re definitely going to get a lot more [of Anthony Hopkins’] Jimmy and see his face, and you’re going to get a lot more of Kora and the Motherworld,” Johnstad shares. “You’re going to get a different introduction to Noble. You’re also going to get a different introduction to some smaller characters like Aris [Sky Yang], who’s the Motherworld soldier that defends the character of Sam in the granary. But just in broad brushstrokes, there’s more character, and certainly knowing Zack, there’s more action and spectacle and the visual vibrance of what he does. So there just wasn’t enough time.”

It is clear that with more than an hour of footage per episode, a much more complete sci-fi/fantasy epic can be expected. Whether that’s enough to turn some of the critics around remains to be seen. Or – as many fear – just a more visceral and violent cut, which improves the action scenes but the film’s narrative problems.

At the time, its director promised a little more of everything, “a completely different, grown-up film”, and from Johnstad’s words here, it seems that there is reason to hope for the script.

But before that, the next stop of the Rebel Moon series will be part 2, which will start on April 19.
