Could Obi-Wan Kenobi Still Return? Ewan McGregor Was Asked!

MOVIE NEWS – Ewan McGregor does not believe that Obi-Wan Kenobi will get another season, but he is sure that his Jedi character will return.

Ewan McGregor has once again expressed his thoughts on a possible return to the Star Wars franchise as Obi-Wan Kenobi. While the actor doesn’t seem to believe that his Disney+ series will get a second season, he clearly believes that time is on his side to return as the Jedi master once again.

McGregor’s return to the franchise after two decades was a massive event in 2022, not least because of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which also sees Hayden Christensen return as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.

Since the broadcast of the series, the Scottish actor has continuously answered questions about whether he might play his role again. Speaking to LadBible recently, the topic came up again. This time around, McGregor seemed to be entirely off the hook for Obi-Wan Kenobi getting a second season. But not because he himself will return to the role.

“The truth is I’ve talked about having to cover for doing the Obi-Wan season for years, I had to lie about that and I’m not lying about this now. I don’t know. There’s been no phone call to me from Lucasfilm, or Disney saying, ‘Let’s do another one’. Obi-Wan was made as a limited series and it’s out and people like it, which I’m very, very pleased about. I love doing it. I hope we get a chance to do another one and I’m sure we will. I’m pretty sure, you know, I’ve got a few years yet before I’m the same age as Alec Guinness was in A New Hope. So there’s time to tell more stories in there.”

Ewan McGregor was an integral part of the Star Wars prequels

McGregor’s portrayal of Kenobi became a defining part of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. But it was not an easy task, as the actor disguised himself as the film icon Alec Guinness. Despite the mixed reception of the prequel films upon their release, they have been re-evaluated by fans and are viewed with much more affection today than they were 20 years ago.

The return of characters like Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader alongside McGregor’s Obi-Wan in the latest projects underscores the franchise’s commitment to legacy characters and ensures that fans mostly get what they want.

These returns bridge not only the different eras of the Star Wars universe, but also the generations of fans. From those who were there when Star Wars hit theaters in 1977, to those who only started discovering the story of the saga through Disney+.

McGregor’s willingness to return to the role has remained consistent over the past two years. Even though Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has often been vague about the chances of Kenobi’s return. With the franchise looking to expand in several different directions, all of which seem to lead away from the Skywalker saga, the question is whether McGregor’s enthusiasm will be enough to find his way back into the saga’s story again.
