Baldur’s Gate 3 Developers Reveal Why They Changed The Release Date!

According to the CEO of Larian Studios, they even had to bring up the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 because of “a certain game” from Bethesda…

We all remember that last summer, the anticipation around the release of Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 kept the audience at a fever pitch. But Larian Studios’ fantasy RPG has pushed its release date forward to early August. While Bethesda’s space RPG debuted in early September. Each had its own importance and significance. However, it turns out that the Belgian studio has a lot of respect for Bethesda, and they didn’t want to release it at a similar time with the Todd Howard-directed title.

This was stated by Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios, in an interview with GamesIndustry, where he talks about how much they respect Bethesda and why they decided to move the release date forward.

“I have a lot of respect for Bethesda… If you’re at sea and a bigger boat passes by, the rule is that you go out of the way for the bigger boat – they were the bigger boat. We went out of the way for [Bethesda], but we still wanted the world to pay attention to us,” he explains.

“We had a lot of narrative-heavy permutations, so we wanted to showcase that the game was very big on identity, and how that identity [is] reflected into the game. We were also a much more cinematic game. Immersion gameplay was similar in what our ambitions were. I think those first three were definitely highlights of what we wanted to focus on,” – says Vincke (via Wccftech).

The creators of Baldur’s Gate 3 are working on two games

A few days ago we reported that the developers of Baldur’s Gate 3 have big plans. It turned out that Larian was working on two games and that they were developing their “own IP”. This is not surprising since they decided to give up the Dungeons & Dragons license. All of this means that there will be no BG3 expansion and no Baldur’s Gate 4 either. At least one that the Belgian team is developing. Hasbro admitted a few days ago that they are already in talks with several publishers about a sequel after BG3.
