Has Capcom Delayed Resident Evil 9?

Despite the release of Resident Evil 8 (which Capcom eventually called Resident Evil: Village) almost three years ago, it looks like the next installment in the franchise will not be released in the previously planned timeframe.

A leaker, The Snitch’s Discord server, has been talking about Resident Evil 9, and here AestheticGamer/Dusk Golem (who has leaked quite a bit about Silent Hill and especially Resident Evil) sums up what he knows, and something is not going as it should for the Japanese developers…

“At this moment, I have no frame of reference for when Resident Evil 9 will be announced. Could be this summer, could be later, the me of right now does not know specifics. I do know that a few years ago the goal was to reveal the game this year and aim for a 2025 release, but I’ve been hearing murmurs the last few months that Resident Evil 9 might have been delayed internally for one reason or another. Some may take this badly, but honestly, it’s not even that unusual for this franchise: Resident Evil games more often than not hit a rough patch and get delayed, some more than others.

To see if these rumors end up being true, but I’ve seen it suggested that another Resident Evil game may end up being announced and released first before Resident Evil 9, but know that this is not something I’ve heard concretely. It’s a thing I’ve heard, I’m following it, and I plan to ask at the next opportunity I get to get more concrete word on it. Just know that it’s something I’ve heard murmurings about from various sources. Part of me kind of wants it to be true, though, because if it’s true, I think the reveal of the Resident Evil game being moved up to release before Resident Evil 9 is pretty fun and would catch a lot of people off guard,” Dusk Golem wrote.

Resident Evil 9 is supposed to have open world features, but something might come before that. If we had to guess, it would be either Resident Evil: Code Veronica or Resident Evil 5 in remake format. But none of this is official!
