Dragon Age: Dreadwolf: Brand New Positive News About BioWare’s Upcoming RPG! [VIDEO]

After a long development process, the studio may finally be on a pretty good track for the new Dragon Age that may be released this year, but let’s not forget that it’s been a rough road so far.

Originally, it was going to be set around Tevinter with a smaller, narrative-driven game that Mike Laidlaw was working on. It was a project codenamed Joplin that Electronic Arts dropped because it didn’t have the live service elements, and that was before Anthem was released. Laidlaw eventually left BioWare. Matthew Goldman’s Live Service version then took his place, but in early 2021, Jason Schreier (Bloomberg) wrote that EA saw potential in single-player titles again, due to the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. So the concept said goodbye to the live-action elements and went back to being a single-player game. Dragon Age 4 was officially christened Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in June 2022. The game was in alpha (playable) state by October.

But it’s been a year and a half since then, and Jeff Grubb talked about Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in the latest episode of Game Mess, which he called “coming in 2024” in March because that’s what the developers were hoping for: “Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, which I’ve mentioned before, is coming out this year. Will it be at Summer Game Fest or something like that? Yeah, they said that themselves over at EA. It still sounds like this game is coming out later this year, so where would they announce it other than Summer Game Fest? They could have their own thing, but my expectation is that they’ll have – well, if they have their own thing, I think it’ll be part of the Summer Game Fest orbit, so we should see that game at Summer Game Fest or around that time.

And they should have all the details for this thing because everybody seems really happy with this game; they’re pretty happy with how it turned out, and the plan is to launch this this calendar year, so not EA’s fiscal year, not before March 2025 or something like that, this year. And I don’t think you’ll have to wait too long after this thing is announced to play it,” Grubb said.

One rumor suggests that instead of direct control, you’ll be able to manage your team members with a “command wheel” similar to Mass Effect. The game, which will run on the Frostbite engine, is coming to the PlayStation 5, Xbox series and PC.
