Could The Mobile Gaming Ports Market Be Dying? Surprising Data Published!

TECH NEWS – According to various estimates, the mobile and iOS ports of Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village, Death Stranding and Assassin’s Creed Mirage have turned out to be flops…

Remember last year when we reported that Apple would let you play the latest Resident Evil, AC Mirage and Death Stranding games on the iPhone 15 Pro? Well, now you can buy them all on iOS. However, what seemed like a revolution in AAA games coming to the mobile market turned out to be a problematic move, according to one analyst. Only a few thousand players were interested in the offer. Below, we will discuss the sales of titles that are “far from a success”.

Mobilegamer.biz reports that Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village, Death Stranding, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage didn’t sell well on iOS, with only a few thousand players purchasing them.

One of the reasons for this failure may be that some of these games cost the same when released on iOS as they did on consoles or PC. The other factor is that only owners of the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and compatible iPads with the M1 chip or later could purchase them.

This in itself is a severe limitation due to the tiny player base. However, according to Appfigures, around 7,000 players have purchased Resident Evil 4 Remake, 5,750 have purchased Resident Evil Village, and 3,000 users have played Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Death Stranding sold the most copies, with 10,600 units. These numbers are very similar to those reported by Appmagic, and the head of content gave his opinion on the matter.

“These figures are far from a success” in the field of mobile ports

Andrei Zubov told Mobilegamer.biz: “These figures are far from a success, especially when compared to the sales achieved by AAA games on their primary platforms. This suggests that these games have already captured a big part of their potential revenue and will now sustain much lower earnings,” he says (via VGC). “Looking at the top-performing mobile premium games, we can see that many are originally indie titles. These games typically feature simpler controls, prioritize unique art styles over high-end graphics, and are suited for shorter play sessions. These are the usual attributes of successful free-to-play mobile games.”

Zubov comes to the conclusion that iOS gamers prefer to buy these games on PC over consoles because they can probably afford it financially.

“For me, it seems like these markets will remain separate, at least for some time. Players who can afford flagship mobile devices and $50 for games are likely to have the resources to enjoy games on PC and console as well. On the other hand, players who can’t afford gaming devices or high-performance mobile phones are less likely to make a one-time $50 purchase.”
