MOVIE NEWS – Brendan Gleeson joins Nicolas Cage in Spider-Noir as the show’s mysterious villain, leading to a whole host of fan theories…
Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir series (currently titled “Spider-Noir”) has received some positive updates lately. But this might be the best yet. The series has found its villain and cast an Oscar-nominated actor for the role!
Cage first appeared in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. He played Spider-Man Noir in the movie and lent his voice to the cult version of Spider-Man.
From a world inspired by the noir thrillers of the 1940s, Spider-Man Noir is a classic American detective whose story will soon be brought to life.
According to Variety, Oscar and multiple BAFTA nominee Brendan Gleeson will join the Spider-Noir universe as the series’ villain. Gleeson’s role has not yet been revealed. And fans are desperately speculating and debating on the Internet who the main villain could be. Spider-Noir is Gleeson’s first announced project since the Irish actor was nominated for the 2023 Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for The Banshees of Inisherin. The series is the second comic book project that the actor has joined. Gleeson has also been cast in a mystery role in Todd Phillips’ upcoming Joker: Folie à Deux alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.
The new series is slowly filling the cast. In addition to Cage and the recently announced Gleeson, Spider-Noir will also feature New Girl star Lamorne Morris. Unlike Gleeson, Morris’ role has already been announced. The actor plays Robbie Robertson.
Nicolas Cage says Spider-Noir will be like the ‘Golden Age’ of comics
Details about the upcoming Spider-Noir series have not yet been revealed. The new series, which will run on Prime Video, does not yet have a production or release schedule. Although the series is still in its infancy, Nicolas Cage has described the vibe he hopes the series will have as a longtime fan of the comics:
“I mean, the fantasy would be that I could try to aspire to be something more Golden Age. I wanted to have that kind of aura, you know, like the more enigmatic, you don’t know too much. That’s why I’m not on social media. That’s the thinking. We’ll see what happens if I do [Spider-Man Noir]. We can get some of that flavor.”
The exact details of the plot are still being kept under wraps. However, we do know that the series will be set in the 1930s and will focus on an older Spider-Man Noir looking back on his time as New York’s hero.
