Daybreak Game Company (who took over the publishing rights in 2016, while development was transferred from Turbine to Standing Stone Games, a group of ex-Turbine members) announced during San Diego Comic-Con how the Lord of the Rings MMORPG, which has been running for 17 years (!!!), will continue to expand.
During the event, Rob Ciccolini, President and Executive Producer of Standing Stone Games, gave a presentation on The Lord of the Rings Online. It is the largest and most complete representation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic world. He gave a sneak peek at Update 41, On the Wing, which introduces a relaxing new player activity, birdwatching. New Legendary Servers are coming soon that will add an extra challenge for players with Ringwraith attacks. These powerful enemies will stalk and attack players when they least expect it. Stronger variants of the Ringwraiths require cooperation to defeat, with the promise of powerful loot. And following the Human overhaul, the Elves are getting an in-game makeover. The race will receive new heads, hairstyles, and animation rigs to further enhance their place in the world of Middle-earth.
Finally, he announced the title of Lord of the Rings Online’s upcoming expansion, Legacy of Morgoth. He talked about how players will continue the story of The Song of Waves and Wind, taking them from the city of Umbar to the deserts of Harad, a place where the taint of evil still looms large.
