The Infamous Uwe Boll Himself Has Commented on the Borderlands Movie – His Opinion Gets Stormy Reactions!

MOVIE NEWS – Even Uwe Boll started ploughing the film adaptation of Borderlands, but it is not sure that he expected such reactions…

Things have been going from bad to worse for the Borderlands movie, and it has perhaps received its cruellest insult yet. Notorious filmmaker and full-time troll Uwe Boll went all out on the film, outright gloating about how badly it was received.

Boll posted an image on social media, which he stole from IGN, showing the film grossing just $8.8 million in its opening weekend against a $115 million budget. “Haha,” writes Boll. “My movies were rated R and made more money than this. Now you wish I directed.”

Let’s put that last part aside for a moment: Did Boll’s films really gross more than $8.8 million? Yes, if we add them up. Twitter user StopSkeletons responded to Boll with some stats: Boll’s biggest hit was House of the Dead, which opened with $5.5 million and ended up grossing $13.8 million. Adding in the opening weekends of Alone in the Dark ($2.8M) and Bloodrayne ($1.5M) brings the total to $9.8M, though that’s spread over three films. (Boll, of course, directed much more.)

Our man Uwe’s answer? The completely absurd claim that his movies have been illegally downloaded 41 billion (yes, “billion”!) times. The discourse does not rise from here either.

Boll launched into a comment battle, calling people geeks and idiots, and of course, the old classic “your mother” couldn’t be left out either…

“Eli Roth/Uwe Boll boxing match, please,” writes Naro Video. “Winner gets to direct the Zelda movie.” My favourite answer, and probably Bol’s too because he reposted it, is the Simpsons meme where Martin shoots Bart. (See at the end of the article!)

Of course, Boll isn’t done yet. He later reposted his original mocking text, adding: “But will the gamers contact the makers of Stride Gum and persuade them to give a free pack of gum to each person that signs the petition Eli Roth can no longer direct?”

A little help with interpretation: this is a reference to a campaign sponsored by Stride Gum back in the 2000s. In it, the company offered a pack of gum to anyone who signed a petition demanding that Boll not direct any more terrible films. As you can see, it didn’t work.

Finally, Boll’s claim is, “Now you wish I directed.” I can’t find any indication that Boll was ever in the running to direct a Borderlands movie. But Boll often applies for any project and is known for his long list of video game adaptations. It is quite possible that at some point, he also submitted his application, which was then ignored in a very reprehensible manner.

Well… weirdly, you feel a little sorry for Eli Roth, but Uwe Boll really does get the weirdest reactions. Borderlands cinema turned out to be pretty weak – if you haven’t read it yet, here’s our review – but honestly… it’s no worse than a Uwe Boll film.
