[GC 2024] Dying Light: The Beast: Kyle Crane Gets Unleashed [VIDEO]

What happens when you experiment on an innocent man for thirteen years? That’s what Techland’s standalone game, which not everyone has to buy, tells us.

If you own the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2: Stay Human, you won’t have to pay for it. Dying Light: The Beast is a thrilling standalone zombie adventure set in the post-apocalyptic Castor Woods, a once-popular tourist destination. After 13 years of torturous experimentation, you escape and hunt down your captors for retribution, only to discover there’s much more at stake. Though the region is not as populated as it once was, there are still people and factions here, as well as plenty of horrors. Some will want your help, others will want to kill you. Not to mention the mysterious creature that has turned the woods into his personal hunting ground.

You are Kyle Crane, the man whose selflessness during the initial virus outbreak saved many from a fate worse than death. After more than a decade in captivity, you find yourself in a world that has changed, and not for the better. Now you must use the survival skills that kept you alive all those years ago to save even more innocent lives. Castor Woods, this once bustling tourist destination is home to a dwindling number of survivors and a growing population of zombies. Featuring natural landmarks, small villages and industrial complexes, the setting offers a variety of traversal options, whether it’s using your parkour skills to gain the upper hand on your enemies or hopping into an abandoned 4×4 to escape the horrors of the night.

They have caged you like an animal. Years of brutal experimentation have taken their toll, but the zombie DNA and yours are now intertwined, allowing you to unleash a beastly power. It runs through your veins. No one can take it away from you. Use it. And you will find that it is not just a curse. The day brings many opportunities to explore the region and make the most of your time while the sun is still out. But after sundown, the laws of nature take over. Darkness tends to bring out the worst in the horde, leaving you with no choice but to run, hide, or fight. Sometimes it’s best to stick with a group. You never know what you might encounter along the way. Team up for up to four-player co-op, or go it alone if you have the stomach for it.

Dying Light: The Beast is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store; probably with Denuvo again, and again, it will be released a year after launch… is that the “launch period” for Techland?), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Release date unknown.
