[GC 2024] Retrieval: Retrofuturism Returns to Gamescom After a Year [VIDEO]

It’s hard to imagine, but the last time we heard from 333Studios’ cinematic horror adventure game was at Gamescom 2023!

This award-winning title invites players to step into the shoes of Hana Loshe, the brave commander of a research team stranded on the distant planet of Ryhalian. Set in a mysterious retro-futuristic base, players will navigate a devastated world in a quest for survival, facing relentless challenges and terrifying enemies at every turn. Retrieval features a gripping narrative filled with unexpected twists and turns, exploring themes of friendship, love, loyalty, and horror. The game’s rich character development and compelling storytelling will captivate players as they uncover the chilling secrets of Ryhalian.

With atmospheric visuals powered by Nvidia and haunting 3D sound design, Retrieval promises an immersive gaming experience. Players will embark on this perilous journey with Hana Loshe and experience the intense drama and thrilling gameplay in this survival horror adventure that blurs the lines between cinema and gaming. The Nvidia partnership on consoles will be a bit strange, as both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series are built on AMD foundations.

The game’s title is a bit unfortunate, as a layman could easily mistake it for Returnal, Housemarque’s roguelike adventure available for PlayStation 5 and PC (the first and last two letters of both games are the same), but whatever. The Nvidia technology shows up in the video with RTXDI (real-time footage), and the audio is fully three-dimensional with Dolby Atmos technology. From the pictures, Retrieval looks quite stylish, and if the atmosphere is matched by sophisticated gameplay, there’s no reason to be disappointed.

We will probably have to wait at least another year, if not more, for the game from 333Studios, as we still have no idea when Retrieval will be released. Target platforms are expected to be PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series in addition to PC. The game might also need a publisher. Maybe they should look for one, right?
