One analyst lowered the sales forecast for Star Wars Outlaws from 8 million to 5 million copies, Ubisoft is getting increasingly worried about the game…
One of Ubisoft’s big releases this year is Star Wars Outlaws, an open-world action-adventure video game developed by Massive Entertainment. The game has only been on the market for a few days, but it has already become one of the best sellers in the PlayStation, Xbox and Epic Games Store digital stores. It’s too early to tell how many copies it sold, but there are growing signs that Ubisoft needs the commercial success of Star Wars Outlaws.
The Financial Times draws attention to this, since the French company has not regained investors’ trust for years. As a result, its share price is at a 10-year low. Thus, Outlaws became the cornerstone of the company’s financial stability. If this Star Wars game is successful in both the short and long term, it could encourage shareholders to reinvest in the French company. However, the situation is also delicate because two major games have also been pushed to 2025, namely Rainbow Six Mobile and another The Division title.
Thus, a situation arose where Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows should be the French company’s lifeline in the coming fiscal quarters.
Ubisoft’s latest financial report indicated lower-than-expected revenues. Net income was estimated at 500 million euros, prompting analyst Nick Dempsey to cut his sales forecast for the next three months from 8 million to 5 million.
If Star Wars Outlaws fails, Assassin’s Creed Shadows must make up for it
The source notes that Assassin’s Creed Shadows could compensate for the loss due to poor sales of Star Wars Outlaws. Moreover, the Financial Times understands that Ubisoft aims to sell 13.5 million copies of the next Assassin’s Creed Shadows game! Because that’s the only way the company’s annual forecast can be fulfilled… It wouldn’t be surprising if it succeeds since Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has sold more than 21 million copies worldwide by 2023.
All we know so far is that the game will be released on November 15th for PS5, Xbox X Series X/S and PC. It was already reported months ago that Ubisoft was happy with Assassin’s Creed Shadows because pre-orders were doing so well.
