The press got the game, shared their reviews, and the Ukrainian developers decided to pull out of the upcoming launch at the last minute…
La Quimera is a new first-person, linear, story-driven shooter from Reburn, the studio formerly known as 4A Games Ukraine, which previously worked on the Metro series with the rest of Malta-based 4A Games. The game was supposed to be released yesterday, and we wrote about it earlier when they set that date. The review codes were sent to the press before the launch. They wrote that the game still felt a bit unfinished. Reburn then announced on the Discord server that La Quimera has been delayed and no new release date has been set.
In a statement, CEO Dmytro Lymar apologized for the last-minute delay, and Reburn attributed the situation to the unexpected problems it faced as its first project as an independent studio. This seems a bit of an excuse, as the studio could have safely decided NOT to announce a release date until La Quimera was sufficiently stable and bug-free. Have they lost faith?
“We would like to apologize for the unexpected delay in bringing La Quimera to you, our fans and supporters. Our team here at Reburn has been working hard on the game, and being our first title as an independent game developer has led to some unforeseen challenges. We’re doing our best to address these issues as quickly as possible, while dealing with the circumstances we face here in Ukraine. Thank you for your patience, continued support and understanding,” Lymar wrote.
There really would have been NOTHING stopping the studio from announcing the game, saying a timeframe of, say, sometime in 2025 (or they could have said, say, Q3)… and then a week or two before release saying, well, that’s when we’re going to release La Quimera, and the press would have gotten the review codes, and everyone would have been happy!
