MOVIE NEWS – One of the main actors of Wolfs, George Clooney, publicly denies the news of the excessive salary that he and Brad Pitt allegedly received.
George Clooney’s bank account may not be as big as fans have been led to believe. At a press conference at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, while talking about his and co-star Brad Pitt’s new film Wolfs, Clooney denied that he and Pitt were each paid $35 million to star in the action comedy from director, writer and producer Jon Watts. In response to a question, Clooney said (after Deadline):
“By the way, there’s a really good report — Nicole Sperling for The New York Times — she wrote an interesting article about it. And whatever her source was for our salary [laughs], it is millions and millions and millions of dollars less than what was reported. And I am only saying that because I think it’s bad for our industry if that’s what people think is the standard-bearer for salaries. I think that’s terrible. It’ll make it impossible to make films.”
On August 25, The New York Times published Nicole Sperling’s article, “Apple Rethinks Its Movie Strategy After a String of Misses,” which included the juicy tidbit that both Clooney and Pitt are paying $35 million for Wolfs, a film which will only be in theatres for one week in September, and seven days later it will be available on Apple TV+. We also reported on the news.
Wolfs received a five-minute standing ovation in Venice
Okay, so George Clooney and Brad Pitt didn’t get paid $35 million each to star in the movie. Or maybe Clooney is just trying to downplay the exorbitant amount he and Pitt were paid for the action comedy, made in the wake of last year’s tumultuous WGA (Writers Guild of America) and SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild & American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) strikes.
Regardless, however, Wolfs is a film that both Clooney and Pitt are very proud of.
Why wouldn’t they be? Director Jon Watts’ new film is now playing at the Venice Film Festival, and the screening was rewarded with a five-minute standing ovation. Clooney and Pitt hugged each other as the audience cheered, and the latter revealed that it was a massive pleasure for him to finally be together on the screen with his Oceans co-star and faithful friend.
Wolfs begins its one-week theatrical run on September 20, just before fans can start streaming Clooney and Pitt’s new film on Apple TV+ on September 27.
