Meta Orion: AR Glasses Unveiled by Mark Zuckerberg

TECH NEWS – While Apple has yet to unveil its AR glasses (they have a headset in the meantime, the Apple Vision Pro), Meta has already made its way here.

Described by the company as the most advanced AR glasses to date, the Meta Orion looks like a normal pair of glasses, only with augmented reality capabilities, and could be a big leap for Zuck’s company and the technology of the future. The device has been in development for five years, and will be usable both indoors and outdoors, and is said to be much more practical than a traditional headset. You don’t need a smartphone or any other accessory to use the AR glasses, which are naturally in front of your eyes, so they could become an everyday product.

“Orion has the largest field of view in the smallest AR glasses form factor to date. This field of view unlocks truly immersive use cases for Orion, from multitasking windows and large-screen entertainment to life-size holograms of people – all digital content that can seamlessly merge with your view of the physical world,” says Meta, who has been working for years to shrink the components. They’re down to just a few millimeters! While the basic AR elements of the glasses can be seen on the display, they also allow users to see the real world, including people’s eyes and facial expressions, which can be an advantage over other AR glasses or headsets.

Meta Orion also relies on artificial intelligence to sense and understand the environment and offer possible solutions to problems. It will not only be used for this, but also for practical purposes, such as being able to look at your fridge and create recipes based on the ingredients inside.

With only a few select users having access to it, Meta is in the final stages of development of the Orion, working on hardware and software issues before the public can get their hands on the product, which it is trying to make sharper, thinner and cheaper. Price and release date are not yet available.
