Gemini: Now Offering Smart Replies in Gmail on Mobile Devices!

TECH NEWS – On Android and iOS, Gemini makes it easy to write replies in Google Mail.

At the I/O developer conference on May 14, Google announced a number of new features. One of them was the ability to get smart replies in context using Gemini in Gmail for both iOS and Android (but that was a half-sentence announcement at the time). Four and a half months later, it’s finally here, and it’s able to interpret the intent of the message to generate appropriate replies, which should make it convenient and good to use.

Gmail has offered smart replies since 2017, which can be useful when you’re in a hurry or on the go and don’t have time to put together what you want to say yourself. But these replies are limited, and don’t interpret the context of the sender and recipient. Google’s artificial intelligence, Gemini, can help by generating more detailed responses for the user that are appropriate for the situation.

When you request an email reply, you are presented with three options based on the full content or thread of the emails. Each of the three responses has a different tone, and if you want to preview the response, a long tap is required to view it, and if you want to send the response, a short tap is sufficient. Before we send the email (in which Gemini will generate both a greeting and a closing), we will have the opportunity to make changes to it. The feature, called Contextual Smart Replies, is currently available to Gemini Business, Education, Education Premium, Enterprise, and Google One AI Premium subscribers.

The feature builds on the basic Smart Reply option and will be available on Google and Apple platforms as appropriate. Currently only available in English, the AI-generated reply option will be rolled out more broadly in the coming weeks, which should save lazy users a few pleasant minutes as they won’t have to write everything themselves, which Gemini will do for them in a matter of moments.
