Massive Leak Reveals Details from Project Rene!

The project formerly known as The Sims 5 has been the victim of a huge leak: the project has not been canceled and playtesting is still going on!

The game will no longer be called The Sims 5, but Project Rene is still in development. This project was previously called the next generation of The Sims, and there was a small playtest that included a basic live mode in the new, smaller playtest. The Reddit leaker played it for several hours and promised more information about the game later.

Project Rene is running on the Google Play Store as The Sims Labs: The Hub with this description: “Explore a Paris neighborhood filled with unique activities and stylish rewards. Welcome to The Sims Labs: The Hub! Choose your Sim – each a unique character with their own story – and join friends and other players to explore a vibrant Paris neighborhood. Claim new outfits from the Thrift Shop by working at the local cafe or completing quests. Make your wishes come true at the plaza fountain, discover hidden collectibles, meet the locals, and more. The Sims Labs games are prototype experiences focused on testing small pieces of larger game concepts. The features in this application do not necessarily represent the direction or content of an upcoming Sims game.”

It is set in a Paris-inspired world and is part of a larger hub (The Sims Hub). This principle will be followed later by Assasin’s Creed, but Call of Duty now also uses this hub system. This hub was also shown at EA’s Investor Day and includes The Sims 4, MySims, The Sims: Project Stories and Project Rene. Project Rene will be a collaborative multiplayer experience where Sims can travel and interact within a given area. They can talk, work, build relationships, and there will be text/voice communication capabilities and multiplayer modes to build and shop together. There will also be NPCs. The build was initially only available on Android, although there was a PC version of the first build (with Denuvo…).

The playtest offered a very small slice of the world. Build mode and custom houses were not available in this test. It was also not possible to do Sim, but a later test will allow for that. There are four premade characters to choose from. The leaker was able to select a character named Rory due to a glitch. Once you select a sim, the game immediately displays some initial missions to get you started. These missions change daily. The main gameplay in this version takes place in a cafe with the other players.

As soon as we start working, the NPC Sims come in and sit down. Someone has to take their order and a bubble appears over their head showing what item they want. Then they have to collect those items. They can choose between coffee, espresso, or croissants. They can’t choose more than one item at a time (e.g. croissant + coffee). This is the main way to make money in this build, and it can get very repetitive and boring after a while. Especially since the jobs don’t give you that much Simoleon. The other way to earn Simoleon is to level up. You can earn XP by making wishes at the fountain, talking to Sims, completing quests, or working in the cafe. During testing, there were only 5 levels to reach, with each level giving you a Simoleon or a new nametag. Hard-earned Simoleons can be spent in the clothing shop. Clothes cannot be customized and you are forced to choose from 5 preset outfits.

So it’s going to be a multiplayer game with a mobile presence…
