The game that was announced in 2022, but reappeared at State of Play, tries to combine several genres and gets a closer look on Nacon’s channel.
Jonathan Jacques-Belletete, creative and art director of the game Rogue Factor, talks about the game in the 15-minute video embedded below. He was previously the art director on Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The alpha footage shows the fast-paced action, and Jacques-Belletete says it was a way for the team, with over 20 years of development experience, to go back to the 90s. That’s why the player has to discover everything on his own, without the game telling him what to do.
The main character is Remi, who was born in a war-torn country. He was smuggled out by his mother when he was 5 years old and grew up in a foster home in Canada. The game begins with a visit to this war-torn country. All Remi remembers is the village and that his father was the village blacksmith. As you explore the country, you will have to find your way back to your hometown and get clues from characters and items.
There are also puzzles to solve. Unlike more modern games (such as God of War), there will be no artificial way to help or tell you what to do, so players will have to rely entirely on their environment, knowledge, and puzzle-solving skills to progress through the game. Jacques-Belletete also made it clear that this is not a Souls clone, but rather a mid-core title, so it’s a more relaxed, playable title. Hell is Us is about jumping in, slaughtering and having a good time. It’s a hack’n’slash genre title that’s not going to be easy, but it’s not going to be too difficult either, which means it’s going to be challenging enough. Combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving will be the three main elements of the game. These will be the main elements of the story, which of course Jacques-Belletete didn’t say much about.
Hell Is Us will be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC.
