EA Is Holding Out on a New Command & Conquer, So a Fan Decided to Make His Own RTS: Meet Fractured Alliance!

EA has been slow to release a new Command & Conquer for PC, so a dedicated fan has taken matters into his own hands, developing an RTS inspired by the 90s classic: Fractured Alliance. As of now, the strategy game has no confirmed release date.

While we can’t say Command & Conquer has been completely forgotten, there have been announcements for both PC and mobile platforms in the past five years. Still, it’s high time for a new PC release, and one fan is making that dream a reality with Fractured Alliance, an RTS now listed on Steam that inevitably draws comparisons to the iconic strategy game from Westwood Studios.

Three Factions, Campaign, and Multiplayer Modes

Also taking inspiration from Supreme Commander, Fractured Alliance is shaping up to be a real-time strategy game featuring base building and three distinct factions, much like Command & Conquer. Players will need to gather resources and construct an army capable of dominating rivals either through its campaign mode—which promises an engaging narrative about war’s endurance and courage—or in skirmish battles, with both cooperative and competitive multiplayer options available.

“Unleash the devastation of nuclear strikes that obliterate your enemies in an instant, or manipulate the weather to gain the upper hand. Redefine warfare by deploying bombers that rain havoc from above or constructing fortress-like walls to shield your bases.”

The Command & Conquer Remastered Collection was released four years ago.

Overall, the game doesn’t seem to deviate much from Command & Conquer. While some new features are expected, the developer highlights the strategic depth of the RTS, where players must adapt to the ever-changing circumstances of each match, leverage the terrain, and outmaneuver opponents with precise tactics and well-calculated decisions.

Fractured Alliance is a solo development project, and you can support it via Patreon. Though it’s too early to discuss a release date, the shared materials so far are promising and reflect the lasting impact that Command & Conquer had on a generation of players, spanning both the Tiberium Wars saga and the alternate Cold War setting of the Red Alerts.
