One of CD Projekt RED’s (CDPR) upcoming games (the Polish company is developing several projects at once and is also working on Unreal Engine 5, having left behind the home-grown REDengine) has recently won the public’s favor with some positive news.
CDPR may have been able to put the dark days of Cyberpunk 2077 behind it, because while it’s no longer a problem to have an interior adventure in Night City when it was released, it felt scandalously unfinished, especially on the PlayStation 4/Xbox One pair. Since then, its first and only add-on, Phantom Liberty, has been released (though it skipped the PS4/X1 duo).
The Witcher 4 is in the pipeline (but its name is not official yet: the new trilogy is codenamed Polaris), and it will probably continue the story of Ciri, as Geralt of Rivia deserves a break after the trilogy that was built around her. It’s not official yet, as Geralt could still return in some form, but perhaps new heroes could appear in the Polish studio’s game.
The Witcher 4 has made "substantial progress" in 2024 and will soon advance to the "full production phase”

According to CDPR, the new Witcher has made significant progress, and that’s good news, but it doesn’t mean we can expect its release anytime soon, and the Poles better take their time, because despite repeated delays, Cyberpunk 2077 has been rushed to say the least. The game will soon enter the full development phase, as the people who worked on Cyberpunk 2077 and its DLC are now working on either Polaris or Orion (the codename for the sequel being developed at CDP’s Boston studio).
There’s a lot of excitement on Reddit, but also a lot of caution, as there’s not much point in getting too excited, as The Witcher 4 is still a long way off. One commenter said we’ll get it before The Elder Scrolls VI, which would be very humorous, but there’s a chance.
The Witcher 4 could come out around 2027 if we had to guess, but that’s a long way off.
