IfSunSets: Now You Can Try This Pirate Zombie Survival Game For Free! [VIDEO]

IfSunSets has taken a lot from Dying Light and its day/night cycle: every time the sun goes down, you’ll want to turn off your computer…

Survival games are not dead, nor have they been reinvented, but after a resurgence in the early 2010s, the genre has recently seen a new surge. Several successful projects emulate the open-world survival format. In this context, IfSunSets aims to stand out from its contemporaries with a much more pronounced thematic approach: it’s a zombie pirate game where you must build a base and survive as you face hordes of the undead every night.

POLYMORPH is a project from Smilegate, the publisher of CrossfireX and Lost Ark, and is available on Steam in early access starting today. The indie studio, which uses Unreal Engine 5, aims to throw us onto an island in the Spanish Caribbean, enhanced with fantasy elements, in the “pirate era”. The idea is that we will have to survive as castaways in a hostile world, where hunger, disease and weather will make things difficult for us, but that will not be our biggest problem.

The zombie army in IfSunSets is the deadliest threat

Starting with the basics, living together with other players promises to be complex. The island has taken in many castaways over the years, and a pseudo-indigenous society has developed there. There will be NPCs with whom we can talk to get quests or information about the island, but we will also meet other players who are looking for their place in this area. However, when night falls, everything changes, even from a gameplay perspective.

IfSunSets differs from other survival games in that it takes place in a pirate world where fantasy and magic dominate.

In addition to fighting creatures like giant scorpions, the island is also overrun with zombies. During the day, you manage your base, survive against other players, and explore the island. However, at night, zombies swarm in hordes and destroy everything. In the style of Dying Light, IfSunSets dramatically increases the difficulty as the sun sets, with different types of zombies and more enormous hordes.

Best of all, IfSunSets uses an exciting action-RPG combat system. Instead of sticking to the typical give-and-take battles of recent survival games, which consist of a few punches until the enemy falls, POLYMORPH strives for much more varied and dynamic combat. Here, the use of ranged and melee weapons is combined with spells, dodges, and blocking. IfSunSets aims to differentiate itself from its competitors as much as possible.

With that in mind, you can try the game for free now, launching on Steam today, November 5th. POLYMORPH studio has also included a single-player demo, which gives you a glimpse of what the open world of IfSunSets has to offer in the style of a prologue.
