Path of Exile 2: Early Access to This Action RPG Will Include Part of the Campaign and Endgame Content

If anyone thought that Path of Exile 2’s early access would be just another one, they were completely wrong. With just weeks to go before we dive into the action RPG excitement of this free-to-play, Grinding Gear Games has revealed plenty of details. It’s hard not to get excited about what’s on the way.

Players entering the dark fantasy world of Path of Exile 2 will have six hero classes to choose from—Monk, Warrior, Witch, Explorer, Sorceress, and Mercenary. They’ll embark on a challenging journey through multiple campaign acts featuring 50 final bosses, around 400 distinct monsters, and a vast array of equipment to strengthen their characters. And this is just the beginning!

Path of Exile 2’s Focus on Endgame Content

“So far, we’ve only shown campaign content, but some might say the real game starts with the endgame,” the developers of Path of Exile 2 shared in a detailed presentation. “With every new action RPG, there’s always the criticism that ‘endgame content isn’t enough.’ We’ve shifted our priorities to ensure that’s not the case with Path of Exile 2.”

What does this mean? Early access will offer three acts of the story mode, providing about 25 hours of gameplay for newcomers. In the months to follow, the game’s content will double. Once the story is completed, players can revisit it on Cruel Difficulty, a New Game+ mode that lets your character reach level 65—the starting point for the endgame.

Infinite Action RPG Fun

From there, players will face the grueling challenges fans loved in the original Path of Exile. Endgame content takes place on a massive map called Atlas, where players must purge the corruption of the world using resources earned through intense battles. “All endgame areas are entirely separate from campaign locations, and we’ve cranked up the randomness of these scenarios to the max.” Even the types of monsters encountered will vary randomly, ensuring unpredictable battles.

Much like the original PoE, endgame content will feature unique systems, including the return of Breaches, where players defeat monsters at high speed for top-tier loot. “While the mechanics are familiar, the monsters, bosses, rewards, and progression are all new.” Players can also engage in Rituals, sacrificing monsters for superior rewards. The sheer amount of content is staggering, as are the character skill options.

With over 1,500 nodes in a gigantic skill tree, customization options are vast. “It may seem intimidating at first, but don’t be scared,” Grinding Gear reassures. “Each class starts from a unique point in the tree, but they’re all part of the same system.”

Hero customization will be deep, allowing for meaningful changes to their arsenal, making every character feel truly unique. These features are highlighted in a stunning gameplay trailer showcasing what to expect in the highly anticipated early access. The intro cinematic for the game has also been shared.

Excited to return to Wraeclast? Mark your calendar: Path of Exile 2 early access begins December 6 on PC, PS5, and Xbox. Access requires purchasing the base Supporter Pack for $30. More expensive packs include exclusive equipment, cosmetics, and bonuses. Keep in mind, this fee is for early access; the full version will eventually be free for everyone.
