MOVIE NEWS – Fans are already divided over who should play the lead roles in the new HBO Harry Potter series…
With barely anything known about the new HBO Harry Potter reboot series, the fandom is already buzzing about who will play the three main characters. Considering that most fans grew up watching Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint as Harry, Hermione, and Ron, it’s understandable that the change can be challenging to process.
It’s not just who will play which role that fans are worried about, but also the logistics of filming. One of the main concerns is that the chosen children will “age out” of their roles too quickly if each season isn’t filmed in quick succession.
Similar problems plagued the Harry Potter films.
“These long two year waits that have become the norm with TV shows nowadays simply can’t happen with this one,” mlon_eusk12 explained on the television subreddit.
Whoever gets the roles, it’s an added challenge to really shape the characters in their own image.
“I really hope whoever gets cast doesn’t feel the pressure to try to recapture the exact energy that Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson brought to their roles,” Upbeat_Tension_8077 commented.
This is the tough fight HBO will have to fight when it tries to reboot the franchise. User TheJoshider10 said, “The movies transcended being a simple adaptation, they’re about as iconic in these roles as Mark, Carrie and Harrison are in Star Wars.”
His post continued: “This TV show is going to be so interesting because the role the Harry Potter movies have in pop culture can’t simply be remade.”
Without further ado, this is yet another problem that stems from the way we view the books and movies. One could argue that no matter who they choose, there will be fans who won’t like them. The pressure on the new cast is already immense, and it’s only going to get worse as development progresses.

According to Variety, Mark Rylance is HBO’s pick to play Dumbledore. Negotiations are already underway with the actor. However, representatives from Warner Bros. and Mark Rylance have not yet confirmed the news.
Variety is not one to get this wrong, though – and Harry Potter fans are certainly hoping the casting news is true. It’s true that Rylance’s potential casting has already been a huge hit.
