Assassin’s Creed fans are divided over a Red Dead Redemption-style AC game…
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is finally landing next February, taking players to feudal Japan. It’s not a location the series has ventured to before, which is surprising, considering we’ve been to practically every other part of the world before.
Egypt, Cyprus, Italy, Spain, the Caribbean, France, England, and the United States are just a few of the countries the series has taken us to so far. The upcoming Assassin’s Creed Hexe adds another location to the list: the 16th-century Holy Roman Empire.
There’s still a lot of mystery surrounding this title, but it’s been confirmed that witchcraft will play a big role in the game, with a female protagonist at the center. Of course, I may have exaggerated when I said we’ve been to practically every other part of the world.
There are still many locations that developers can use, with one fan suggesting that an Assassin’s Creed game set in the Wild West would be fun.
This suggestion comes from Reddit user noah_the_mighty, who wrote: “I think it would be really cool to explore the history of the American west in the AC world. There are so many outlaws and cowboys during the period who would make both awesome enemies and surprising historical figures like templars and assassins.”
He continued: “I’m fully aware somebody probably came up with this in the past. I’m not trying to steal this as my own idea, I’m just saying it would be crazy and really awesome.”
At first glance, I like the idea, but after sitting here for a few minutes thinking about it, I wonder how the openness of the Wild West would fit in with Assassin’s Creed’s penchant for stealth gameplay. I feel like there are some serious hurdles to overcome, and I’m not the only one who has doubts.
“The main weapon in the era wasn’t blades, but guns. It would turn into a third person cover shooter,” said an indecisive user, viniremesso. “For parkour, would be a worse setting than Valhalla, and Vahalla setting for parkour is horrible.” (Open spaces, no buildings.)
“A Wild West AC would have very wide streets and not that much verticality, and I doubt the cities would be that big either,” added Kiribaku.
I’m not sure the developers would be able to meet the requirements, so maybe Red Dead Assassin’s Creed is not in the plans, but never say never.
We’ve ventured to America before, so maybe a short Wild West segment isn’t entirely out of the question. What do you think? Would you try such an AC title, or do you not see any imagination in it?
