Inspired by the 1898 book War of the Worlds, 1C Game Studios’ game was announced at the end of August last year, but now we get to see a little more.
The War of the Worlds: Siberia is an action-adventure game inspired by the classic science fiction novel by Herbert G. Wells. In an alternate 1896, Earth was the target of a massive Martian invasion. The War of the Worlds: Siberia follows survivors as they attempt to save themselves by fleeing panicked Petrograd for the eastern edge of the Russian Empire. Using combat, puzzle-solving, and stealth, the main characters will evade danger to successfully complete their missions.
It features a thrilling third-person action-adventure experience and a unique setting of the Russian Empire under the rule of alien invaders. It offers an intricate story with memorable characters, historically inspired by 19th century Russia. You can be equipped with dozens of weapons, from cap-lock rifles and black-powder pistols to the Maxim machine gun. The game also features stealth elements and spatial puzzles.
However, 1C Game Studios hasn’t said much more about the game. All we know is that it’s coming to PC, but there’s no word on when it will be released. The 1C company is based in Moscow, so not many people know Siberia better than them, and it’s a good idea to set the game there. By the way, we have already seen several game adaptations of War of the Worlds…
1978’s Space Invaders was inspired by the book’s alien creatures, but there were arcade adaptations in 1979 and 1982 (the latter in color), a desktop wargame in 1980, a computer adaptation in 1984, and a real-time strategy game in 1998. In 1999, a vehicle combat game appeared on the PS1, and in 2011, Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation) narrated a 2D action platformer. In 2020, Grey Skies: A War of the Worlds Story offered a stealth adventure, in 2021 the survival horror-style Darker Skies was set after the events of the book, and meanwhile FlipSwitch Games is working on War of the Worlds, a project unrelated to 1C’s.
