[TGA 2024] Split Fiction: Josef Fares Delivers His Most Ambitious Co-Op Game Yet [VIDEO]

Publisher Electronic Arts and developer Hazelight Studios have officially announced Split Fiction, a groundbreaking cooperative action-adventure game set to launch on March 6, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (via Steam). Featuring Hazelight’s signature split-screen co-op gameplay, this new title blends sci-fi and fantasy worlds into an epic, innovative experience.

Josef Fares, the charismatic founder and director of Hazelight Studios, announced The Game Awards 2024. Split Fiction follows the story of Mio and Zoe, two developers who find themselves trapped in a chaotic world they created, with their memories and creative ideas stolen by a mysterious machine. To escape, players must work together to reclaim their identities and overcome the surreal challenges of two drastically different realms.

Hazelight’s Legacy of Co-Op Mastery

Hazelight Studios has solidified its position as a pioneer in cooperative gaming. Their 2021 title, It Takes Two, won the Game of the Year award and has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. This remarkable achievement stands out even more, given the game’s limited marketing campaign and the dominance of popular multiplayer titles like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone.

Reflecting on the studio’s achievements, Josef Fares said:
“For over a decade, we’ve been redefining what co-op games can be. With Split Fiction, we’ve taken everything we’ve learned and created something truly extraordinary. The ability to switch between sci-fi and fantasy worlds allowed us to push storytelling and gameplay to exciting new heights. This is our most ambitious adventure yet!”

Jeff Gamon, general manager of EA Partners, echoed Fares’ excitement:
“The best friendships and memories are often made while playing amazing co-op games, and Hazelight has mastered the art of bringing people together. We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Josef and his incredible team to deliver another groundbreaking experience.”

What to Expect in Split Fiction

In this action-packed adventure, players take on the roles of Mio and Zoe, two contrasting writers. One specializes in sci-fi, the other in fantasy, but both find themselves stuck in their own stories. The game challenges players with unique mechanics and abilities as they navigate between two vastly different worlds to regain control of their ideas and memories.

Gameplay highlights include escaping a supernova, engaging in a dance battle with a monkey, performing gravity-defying tricks on hoverboards, and even riding a sandshark. Each world offers wildly different challenges, ensuring that no two moments are alike.

Additionally, Split Fiction brings back the popular Friend’s Pass feature, allowing players to invite a friend to join for free. This time, cross-play compatibility ensures seamless co-op fun across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
