More Indiana Jones Games on the Horizon?

It seems that LucasFilm Games (Disney) is keen on giving Indiana Jones more game adaptations after the release of the latest Indy adventure two weeks ago.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was released two weeks ago for the Xbox Series and PC (and you can also find MachineGames’ title in the Xbox Game Pass offerings). It’s also coming to PlayStation 5, but that won’t be until sometime in the spring (no doubt at Disney’s urging, as they own the license, not Microsoft). And it seems that the first results are encouraging enough, because if a licensed game can generate enough sales, the licensee is much more likely to agree to develop new games…

Daniel Richtman, who is more of a movie industry insider, wrote on Twitter that “it looks like we’re getting more Indy games”. He did not elaborate on who is developing them. It could be MachineGames, although we’ve been waiting for Wolfenstein III from them for years, which is supposed to wrap up the reboot storyline. Anyway, Richtman’s comment was answered by a gif from Windows Central editor Jez Corden saying “it’s true”, so Corden implicitly confirmed Richtman’s statement.

In other words, MachineGames’ idea worked, because after Wolfenstein, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle also used a first-person view. If this is the studio that got the thumbs up for a sequel (and there’s a good chance it is), it’s still very early days and they probably haven’t even started any major work this year. Troy Baker was also adequate in the character of Indy, although the game’s producer Todd Howard was initially quite dismissive of him (we reported on this in the news). Creative director Axel Torvenius managed to get the role, though, and his performance was barely distinguishable from Harrison Ford’s.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PC made the use of a ray tracing graphics card mandatory. This example will surely be followed by many other AAA titles.
