At least the game from Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) hasn’t gone the way of its sequel, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, so far… We say this for a reason.
After all, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been ported to just about every platform since its release in 2011, and it’s become something of a meme that Todd Howard’s game keeps getting re-released.Now, however, Windows Central editor Jez Corden has tweeted (technically as an opinion, but it could be a ruse on his part) that he’d like to see a remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in the Xbox Developer Direct, which is scheduled for early January 2025. By the way, the press doesn’t know what to make of this, because some people are writing remaster and some people are writing remake, so let’s play it safe: let’s call it a new version. That would be the right term for both concepts…

Anyway, it is perfectly understandable that BGS is planning something like this.Skyrim has run out of steam (it’s not Grand Theft Auto V after all), so something else has to fill the space before Todd Howard and his team release the long-awaited The Elder Scrolls VI.By rebooting the fourth TES episode, they can raise the franchise’s profile even among those who don’t know much about the IP’s name. And if this were to happen, say next year, Microsoft would have more open world RPGs like Avowed, Fable, or even The Outer Worlds 2 in the genre. Adding Howard’s Spring 2006 release to the mix would be a strong move.
However, this might allow Microsoft to delay one of these games to avoid cannibalization due to the short time between titles of a similar genre (something Electronic Arts learned at the expense of Titanfall 2, which was released too close to Battlefield 1…), so we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Fable reboot delayed.
None of this is official!
