“There’s a lot of Microsoft in PlayStation sales,” says an analyst who believes Xbox has a promising future if it embraces more platforms. Mat Piscatella analyzed Xbox’s trajectory and emphasized Game Pass as a crucial element of its strategy.
The gaming industry is undergoing significant shifts, and Xbox is striving to redefine its role in an increasingly competitive market. Subscription services and cloud gaming are becoming integral to major console manufacturers, and Microsoft is aiming to lead the way by building a digital ecosystem accessible across numerous devices.
In an interview with GamesRadar, Mat Piscatella, CEO of Circana, shared his thoughts on Xbox’s present and future. Piscatella, known for his analysis of U.S. gaming sales, believes Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy could position the company for success in the coming years. He also noted that PlayStation could be a key ally in achieving these goals, as several Xbox titles consistently feature on Sony’s top sales charts.
“If you examine current sales trends, like PlayStation’s charts, you’ll notice a significant presence of Microsoft titles there. Expanding the reach of their products across other platforms just makes sense. Looking ahead, Xbox’s initiatives to extend the brand beyond consoles are clearly evident and already showing results in their financial reports. While they acknowledge slower console sales, the broader strategy looks promising.”
Xbox’s Cross-Platform Future
Recently, Microsoft’s CEO stated that “being an Xbox fan is evolving,” signaling the end of traditional console-centric thinking. Players will soon enjoy Xbox games, IPs, and content across multiple platforms. Phil Spencer, Xbox’s head, further remarked that there’s no firm boundary preventing Xbox games from appearing on PlayStation 5. Following titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, it’s likely we’ll see more Xbox games on PS5.
