Mass Effect 5: Will It Feature a Familiar Element from the Trilogy?

BioWare (after the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard) can now focus more on the new Mass Effect episode.

Very little is known about Mass Effect 5 at the moment, as BioWare has only released short videos and concept art for what is presumably still in very early development (so there’s not much to release unless it’s fake, misleading CGI). However, a fan on Twitter thinks it will include something we saw in the first three episodes.

According to the fan, the Paragon/Renegade system seen in the Mass Effect trilogy will reappear in the new game. Michael Gamble, the director of Mass Effect 5, released concept art last year showing a character that will most likely appear in the final episode surrounded by lights that look like the Paragon logo from the original trilogy. In response, @kalaelizabeth wrote that the Paragon/Renegade system will return in Mass Effect 5, to which Gamble said that he was only referring to the trilogy and that we should be patient, so it will be some time before BioWare officially confirms what we’ll be getting.

The Paragon/Renegade system was essentially the moral system of the Mass Effect trilogy. By performing actions that were considered morally good, Shepard, our protagonist, could rise to the level of Paragon, while actions that were considered morally bad could push our character towards Renegade. These options opened up other possibilities. For example, if our Renegade level was high enough, we could even answer a reporter’s question by kicking the poor character through a window.

Gamble, who is also the director and executive producer of the franchise, said last year that he would maintain the mature tone of the original trilogy and that photorealistic visuals would be the primary focus as long as he was at the helm of the franchise. The problem is that we might have to wait until 2029 for Mass Effect 5…
