Borderlands 4 Finally Gets a Release Date – Back with Brutal Gameplay on PlayStation State of Play

Borderlands 4 has once again exploded at PlayStation’s State of Play event, with devastating gameplay and a definitive release date. Gearbox confirmed at Sony’s event that the looter-shooter will arrive on September 23rd.

Gearbox and 2K Games didn’t want to miss one of the biggest video game events of the first quarter of 2025, so they showed off a new gameplay trailer for Borderlands 4 during PlayStation State of Play. And it’s not just any trailer: the fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping action and devastating explosions guaranteed to live up to fans’ expectations. And the best news? Finally, there’s a concrete date to mark on your calendar.

Gearbox creative director Randy Varnell and studio founder Randy Pitchford were also at the event to personally show off the spectacular gameplay. After a presentation that focused on lightning-fast pace and agility, the duo has finally revealed the release date for Borderlands 4: September 23, 2025. So one of the biggest hits of the fall is definitely coming.

However, there are still many questions surrounding Borderlands 4, and Gearbox is already working on the answers. The developers are preparing an exclusive presentation that will focus specifically on the game’s combat system, action mechanics and exploration. As Varnell and Pitchford said during the State of Play, Borderlands 4 will be the protagonist of a special spring event, where fans can get a deeper insight into the game’s world and its possibilities.

Borderlands 4 will be the “most ambitious” episode in the series

Fans have every reason to be excited, as Gearbox has previously stated that the developers are working on the most grandiose part of the Borderlands universe yet. Players will enjoy unprecedented freedom, provided by an arsenal of “billions” of weapons and significantly expanded gameplay and customization options.
