[SOP 2025] Hell is Us Will be a Mapless, Unforgiving Open World Soulslike – Finally a Release Date [VIDEO]

Hell is Us is an open-world game where you need both skill and intelligence to survive. Without aids or a map, the game promises a brutal challenge, and now it finally has a release date. Developed by the director of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the project is set to launch on September 4 for PC, Xbox Series, and PS5.

Smaller and mid-budget games are often the ones that bring the biggest surprises, as they dare to push mechanics further than major studio projects. Hell is Us follows this philosophy, taking the soulslike gameplay style to a new level in an open-world setting where the punishing nature of Dark Souls-style games becomes even more challenging. No user interface, no guidance, no map, and ruthless enemies – Hell is Us looks like pure madness, and now it finally has a release date.

Hell is Us was first announced three years ago under the leadership of Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, former creative director of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. However, it wasn’t until the September 2024 State of Play that we got a deeper look at its gameplay. Now, Sony is once again backing the project, which officially has a release date: September 4, 2025, on PC, Xbox Series, and PS5.

A ruthless open-world game from Warhammer veterans

The French studio Rogue Factor has set its new project in a country ravaged by civil war, within an apocalyptic sci-fi world plagued by mysterious supernatural creatures. The team, which previously worked on the Warhammer franchise with Necromunda: Underhive Wars, has extensive experience in creating dark and brutal worlds. Players will have to uncover the mysteries of this world with only their sword and their wits, as Hell is Us completely forgoes mission markers and guiding icons.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the game is its complete freedom of exploration in a fully unguided open world. It will be up to the player to decide where to go and how to navigate, as Hell is Us’s combat system is equally unforgiving. Battles against the strange creatures that inhabit this world require not just reflexes but also strategic thinking, as the protagonist is limited to melee weapons and must learn to read enemy attack patterns.

As the release date draws closer, Hell is Us is shaping up to be one of the most exciting titles of the year. With a unique blend of action, exploration, and immersive storytelling, it promises to captivate players who seek a real challenge and deep, engaging experiences.
