From Software’s next game will be a spin-off, but the Japanese studio didn’t want to rush the story so much that it would offend fans of the Souls series…
Variety will be needed in Elden Ring Nightline, as it will have a roguelike structure. Not only do we get to see the Elden Ring characters in the announcement video, but one of the boss characters from Dark Souls 3, The Nameless King, also makes an appearance. Both Souls and Elden Ring have endless lore-centric theories that the most ardent FromSoftware fans can weave based on characters and items’ descriptions, and cut content.
However, it turns out that this roguelike spin-off is set in an alternate universe, so FromSoftware may be taking it a little easier. Who knows who else from the first two episodes of Dark Souls, or even Bloodborne (also from FromSoftware) will appear in the game, but that’s just a guess on our part. Junya Ishizaki, director of Elden Ring Nightreign, told GameSpot in an interview that hardcore fans need not worry:
“The main reason for these existing bosses in Elden Ring Nightreign is from a gameplay perspective. Obviously, with this new structure and this new style of play, we needed a lot of different bosses… so we wanted to use what we felt was appropriate from our previous titles. We obviously understand that our players have a lot of affection for these characters and a lot of fond memories of fighting them in those games, so we didn’t want to interfere too much with that lore aspect. We wanted them to make sense within the atmosphere and vibe of Elden Ring Nightreign,” Ishizaki said.
Elden Ring Nightreign has already received its release date, and we weren’t too far off with the spring-summer timeframe, as it will be released on May 30 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game will also get a network test, but only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series will get it.
