Even though Arkane’s hack’n’slash game: Dark Messiah of Might and Magic was released in 2006, fans have stuck with it… and it turns out that Ubisoft is helping!
KingDavidW, a modder who is trying very hard to fix Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, has confirmed on ModDB that he is actively working with Ubisoft on this, and even Nvidia has helped out to make a lot of mods and modding tools. The modder wrote that with official support, the project has reached unimaginable heights, and their contacts at Ubisoft are fighting for them to make sure that the excellent audience gets everything they want.
For example, cut content has found its way back into Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, and it’s no coincidence that the mod is called Dark Messiah: Restoration Mod. Originally, the only goal was to get rid of bugs in the gameplay (buggy ropes, impossible situations, or the removal of soft locks, or the appearance of the French keyboard…). However, the French publisher provided a lot of excellent assets from the Xbox 360 version of the game (subtitled Element), and in it they found a lot of cut content, so bonus missions, a cut map (the caves) and many cut weapons (sword of misery, necromancer’s staff) reappear in Arkane’s game.
Ubisoft is also helping to create a more advanced Software Development Kit (SDK), which may come in a few months instead of the end of the year. KingDavidW didn’t elaborate on Nvidia’s help, but perhaps the RTX mod is why the modder mentioned “the greens”. This mod is still in the works and will take a long time to rework the textures and models according to the modder. And finally, the biggest surprise, although it’s still a work in progress: cooperative gameplay! This is not on ModDB yet, but is publicly available for testing on GitHub. The maps still need some tweaking to make them ideal for two players.
Before Dishonored, this was the game that Arkane was known for, so it’s good to see this project!
