Finally! The most powerful open-world MMO of 2025 now has a release date, but the best part? You can already create your Dune: Awakening character. Funcom’s game launches on PC on May 20, but players can jump in early with its Character Creator and Benchmark Mode.

Dune has fascinated millions worldwide, thanks to Frank Herbert’s novels and Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster films. So, it’s no surprise that Dune: Awakening, Funcom’s MMO set in this iconic sci-fi universe, has become one of the most highly anticipated video games of 2025. Now, the developers have some exciting news: the game has an official PC release date, and players can already explore part of its features.

Character Creation Now Available!

Funcom has also released a brand-new trailer for Dune: Awakening, showcasing the dangers that await players in Arrakis’ ruthless desert. The video confirms that the MMO will be available on PC starting May 20, 2025, while the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series release dates will be announced later.

With launch just weeks away, Funcom has decided to increase the hype by releasing a free Character Creator. Players can now customize their protagonist’s appearance, home planet, caste, and mentor (Swordmaster, Bene Gesserit, Mentat, or Trooper). Funcom has confirmed that any characters created in this tool will carry over to the final version on May 20.

Benchmark Mode and Exclusive Rewards

In addition to character creation, players can explore Arrakis through Benchmark Mode. Originally designed to test if a PC can run Dune: Awakening smoothly, Funcom has made this feature more exciting by including cinematic in-game moments. Users will be able to analyze their system’s performance while watching an ornithopter soar through the sky or experiencing a dramatic encounter with a sandworm.

Dune: Awakening will be priced at €49.99. Although pre-orders are not yet open, Funcom has announced that players who purchase the game before its release will receive an exclusive Muad’Dib Terrarium in-game item. Additionally, those who download the Character Creator will receive a code to unlock the Frameblade knife skin, redeemable after the MMO’s launch.
