Say Goodbye to a Star Wars Title That’s Not Even Properly Launched on Steam Yet!

It’s a title that’s only available in early access on Valve’s digital platform, but it’s only recently appeared… and it’s already being canned!

Zynga has announced that its free-to-play arena shooter Star Wars: Hunters will be shut down on October 1. The last content update will be a month later, on April 15th. The game was first released on iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch on June 4, 2024, and has been available for early access on Steam since January 27 of this year. That’s a pretty short lifespan for a free-to-play title.

“Dear Hunters, thank you for your incredible support and for being part of the world of Vespaara. After careful consideration, we want you to know that the final content update for Star Wars: Hunters on all platforms will be April 15th. The game will remain playable until October 1, 2025, when the game’s online servers will be shut down. We understand that this news may be disappointing, and we want to assure you that this decision was not made lightly. Your passion and dedication to the game and its community has meant the world to us, and we are committed to providing transparency and updates throughout the transition process,” Zynga wrote.

On March 25, season five will be extended by three weeks. The season’s events and shop packs will run again, and the ranked season will be extended to give players more time to reach Kyber 1 rank. A free content update will be released on April 15th. In-game purchases will be disabled on all platforms. A new support role, the Hunter Tuya, will also be added at that time and will be immediately available and playable by all users for free, along with a variety of additional in-game content. A final ranked ladder will continue to be available for players to compete on, and all battlegrounds and game modes will be rotated. Finally, the game will become unplayable on October 1st when the servers are taken down.

Just an innocent question at the end: Are there any plans to preserve the game?
