Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 pushed its lead actor to new limits, especially in one of the game’s most demanding aspects. Tom McKay, who portrays Henry, described the motion capture process as dynamic and collaborative, while voice acting proved to be a solitary, mentally taxing challenge.
Among the standout titles of 2025, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 holds a firm place thanks to its expansive world, grounded medieval realism, and intricate branching narrative. Warhorse Studios has received acclaim for blending immersive design with powerful performances, though bringing these elements together proved far from easy. For Tom McKay, embodying protagonist Henry involved balancing technical precision with emotional range—something he says was “incredibly challenging.”
Speaking at the BAFTA Games Awards (via GamesRadar+), McKay shed light on the production process behind the scenes. Reflecting on his time at Warhorse Studios, he described the motion capture sessions as “collaborative and fun… like doing theater.” He elaborated, “You’re surrounded by people, wearing full-body lycra, and it’s actually a great experience. We did four or five months of motion capture.” However, voice recording told a very different story: “It’s quite isolating—you’re in a box, communicating with two directors from separate rooms. It feels more like a marathon. Still fulfilling, but in a completely different way.”
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will implement Hardcore Mode very soon
The complexity of the production was amplified by the game’s scale. As McKay explained, the open-world structure means players shape their own path. “They become the director—choosing where to go and who to become. My role was to reflect every possible version of that. It was difficult, but probably the most rewarding part of the job.”
Although Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has already launched to strong reception, Warhorse Studios is far from finished. The developers are preparing three story expansions—Death by the Brush, Legacy of the Forge, and Mysteria Ecclesiae—while also planning to add a long-requested Hardcore Mode. Fans can expect this brutally realistic feature to arrive as early as next week.
