On Nintendo Switch 2, Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will finally let players repair weapons — but only via the Nintendo Today! app, and even then, not every time.

The world of Hyrule in Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom has dazzled fans with its exploration, innovation, and open-ended gameplay. Yet despite near-universal praise, one mechanic has long frustrated players: the fragility of weapons. After just a few swings, swords and spears shatter. That issue may finally get some relief — with caveats — in the Switch 2 versions of both titles.

Nintendo is adding a weapon repair feature to these upgraded editions, but the catch is that it’s not native to the console itself. Instead, players must use the Nintendo Today! mobile app, available now on smartphones. This app will soon include a Zelda Notes hub, achievements specifically tied to the Switch 2 versions, and most notably, a randomized daily bonus system — which may include weapon repair options.

Weapon Repair Isn’t Guaranteed

The repair function isn’t a menu option you can call up at will. It’s a roll of the dice: daily bonuses can include health boosts, extra items, or gear repairs. According to GamesRadar, the feature is entirely random, meaning you could go days without being able to fix a single weapon. While it introduces a new layer of interactivity, it doesn’t fully solve the core frustration for many players.

Beyond weapon repair, the Nintendo Today! app also offers GPS functionality to help uncover secrets in Hyrule, as well as collectible medals for in-game feats. The Switch 2 upgrades themselves — including better visuals, HDR support, smoother frame rates, and reduced loading times — are paid unless you’re a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscriber, in which case they’ll be free.

Both updated versions launch on June 5 and aim to breathe new life into Nintendo’s beloved modern classics.
