Skyblivion is just one of many projects building on the foundation of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Skywind is a remake/reimagining of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind set in the world of Skyrim. The project is huge, and the team behind it just posted a 20-minute video on YouTube showing how development is going. The video showcases the Imperial Legion’s mission to rescue Joncis Dalomax and the development of the west-central Bitter Coast region. Perhaps the most noticeable changes in Skywind will be the sound. The mod will feature new interpretations and recordings of the original game’s music, which the official Oblivion remaster didn’t even attempt.
The team’s ambition to fully voice the previously silent cast of Morrowind is really impressive. Aside from battle cries and greetings, everything in the original 2002 game was only text-based. Of course, there will be a few challenges, like pronouncing Ashurnibibi or Ashalmimikala (not to mention Addadshashanammu). Skywind mixes the mechanics and user interface of the two games. The dialogue screen is a great combination of Skyrim and Morrowind, and it’s also exciting that you can bring up multiple spells via the Skyrim favorites menu. And here, there’s no fast travel — only magic or hopping on the bug bus.
The sight of Ashurnibibi is stunning: covered in purple stones, spikes, and strange angles — mostly alien, but evoking something familiar and impossibly ancient. Skywind’s new details and lighting really bring the world to life. The project is progressing well, but it’s still far from release. Based on the team’s progress breakdown at the end of the video, compared to similar updates for Skyblivion, the earliest possible release date would be 2027.
The modders are seeking 3D artists and translators, as well as people for less specialized, beginner-friendly roles like navmesh builders and sound quality testers.
