Fans Financed a Tomb Raider Tabletop Game in Minutes; A New Look for Lara!

Tomb Raider: The Crypt of Chronos reached its minimum funding goal on Kickstarter in a very short time.

Lara Croft will soon return in an unexpected format that could be delicious for the future of the series. The Tomb Raider series and its protagonist, Lara Croft, are undoubtedly two of the most recognizable icons in the gaming industry. While the franchise has had some memorable releases, others have been average at best (Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness comes to mind; it’s not as faithful, but very good in remastered form).

As for the future of the series, we know that a new Tomb Raider game is in development, but we don’t know when it will be released. Hopefully, this isn’t a sign that development has halted. Although, seeing as Amazon is involved in the project, that wouldn’t be surprising, as they, like all big tech companies, don’t know much. Just look at Netflix or Google.

In the meantime, you might want to check out the new board game, which was funded in minutes on Kickstarter. The game in question is Tomb Raider: The Crypt of Chronos, which is described as an epic Tomb Raider adventure in an action-packed board game. An ancient secret is revealed as Lara Croft fights to save herself through time.

Scheduled for release in February, the board game features treasure hunting, puzzle solving, trap avoidance, and battling soldiers and challenging bosses, and it includes some stylish, paintable miniature figures. The base game and stretch goals cost £45, or £115 with expansions. Interestingly, the box image shows a new version of Lara Croft, though this is not her first appearance. We first saw this image of Lara in 2024 on the official Tomb Raider website, after which she appeared in an unrelated tabletop RPG.

This may mean nothing at all, but it seems that Fellowship Entertainment (Embracer Group), the owner of the Tomb Raider franchise, would like Lara Croft to look like this in the next game.
