Tomorrow, the Dying Light Retouched Update arrives, offering completely free improvements to graphics, lighting, and even the soundtrack for anyone who already owns the game.

Nearly a decade after its original launch, Dying Light is about to receive its fourth major version. But instead of some “Ultra Complete Edition” that asks you to pay again, developer Techland is releasing the Retouched Update—a technical overhaul of the original zombie parkour world, focused on visual and audio enhancements. The best part? It’s free if you already own the base game, and it’s coming much sooner than you might expect.

Producer Tymon Smektala from Techland clarified in a statement that this isn’t a full remaster or a 2.0 reboot, but a way to “squeeze even more out of the Dying Light you already love.” Rather than rebuilding from scratch, the update modernizes visuals and improves technical performance, leveraging years of development experience without risking the stability of the classic title.

Release Date and What’s Inside Dying Light: Retouched

The biggest upgrades in Dying Light: Retouched include texture optimizations, more realistic lighting, and the addition of physically based rendering. The maximum visual detail range increases from 260% to 340%, so players can now see farther and with greater clarity. A new “Ultra 8K” shadow level also brings more depth and atmosphere to the world.

The soundtrack isn’t overlooked either: Paweł Błaszcak, Dying Light’s original composer, has returned to remaster the entire soundtrack and add brand-new music, making the game’s world more immersive than ever. These updates breathe new life into the game, all without changing its core gameplay or the fundamental identity fans know and love.

Dying Light: Retouched will be available as a free update on June 26 for all players who own the game on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S (Nintendo Switch won’t be supported). With this update, Techland reinforces its ongoing commitment to a community that has kept the game alive for years, while letting you experience Harran in a way you’ve never seen before.
