Diablo 4 Season 9 isn’t for the faint of heart. Blizzard’s ARPG is tougher than ever, pushing its Nightmare Dungeons to the absolute limit. Scalable dungeons, Horadric rooms, and more are coming in Diablo 4’s most brutal season yet.
Since its inception, the Diablo franchise has thrived on continually reinventing its dark world and gameplay, consistently adapting to player feedback and new challenges. With Diablo 4, Blizzard knew it was laying the foundation for a future filled with new seasons, content drops, and expansions. Now, the time has come for Season 9—launching July 1st with some of the game’s biggest changes yet.
According to Blizzard’s official site, Diablo 4 Season 9 (kicking off this Tuesday) will bring lasting changes to Nightmare Dungeons, aiming to breathe fresh life into the endgame. The most headline-grabbing addition is Horadric Rooms—hidden micro-dungeons discovered through portals in traditional dungeons. Here, players can select challenge modifiers in exchange for better loot and bonuses.
Clearing these Horadric Rooms grants extra XP, gold, and reputation, making every run more rewarding. Season 9 also introduces Progressive Nightmares—a three-dungeon gauntlet where modifiers stack, and the challenge ramps up with each step. To tackle these, players need special items from the Horadric Halls. And on Torment difficulty, the chain ends in a showdown with a souped-up Astaroth.
What’s New in Diablo 4 Season 9?
Dungeon modifiers now impact combat as well, making every encounter less predictable. But Nightmare Dungeons aren’t the only thing getting an overhaul. Season 9 introduces new seasonal mechanics centered on Horadric magic. Players can now craft and customize Horadric Spells—special abilities that power up your character in unique ways. Even after recent criticism, Blizzard insists these changes will let players experiment and build their own playstyles like never before. And take note: the Nightmare Dungeon and Progressive Nightmare upgrades are here to stay, becoming a core part of Diablo 4’s endgame going forward.
