Reaper Actual: A Massive 776km² Warzone Built by the Creators of PlanetSide 2

It’s flying under the radar, but there’s a colossal 776 square kilometer open world out there, built by the masterminds behind massive multiplayer shooters, and you’ll want to jump in as soon as possible. Reaper Actual is the work of Distinct Possibility, a team founded by former PlanetSide 2 developers, and it’s set on a map where “the round never ends.”

Military shooters are a dime a dozen. The genre has stuck with us since the dawn of gaming, and while there have been plenty of evolutions, we’ve mostly seen new subgenres rather than complete reinventions. Enter Distinct Possibility’s Reaper Actual, an ambitious military shooter with an unusual promise: here, the battle literally never ends. The game’s debut trailer already showcased a persistent open world with both PvE and PvP skirmishes, quickly grabbing the attention of tactical online shooter fans everywhere.

Reaper Actual is the brainchild of PlanetSide 2 veterans

In Reaper Actual, players are thrown into a global conflict where paramilitary factions fight for control of cities, villages, forests, and mountain ranges. You can jump in and out at any time—there’s no pause, and the war rages on. As a “Reaper,” you can accept contracts from rival factions or go your own way, bringing a surprising degree of RPG freedom to the chaos of war.

Perhaps the most intriguing aspect is the player base, where you’ll be able to craft weapons, gear, and even vehicles, as well as recruit new Reapers to boost your squad. This crafting system adds strategic depth and personal progression in a massive multiplayer world where—true to their word—“the round never ends,” and you can drop in or out at any moment.

PvE and PvP zones are constantly intertwined and dynamic. One squad might be sent to eliminate a special target, while another (human-controlled) team is assigned to protect them—creating unpredictable, overlapping missions that keep Reaper Actual’s world in constant motion. The game’s map is nothing short of vast, holding up to 200 players at once, and it’s four times bigger than Caldera (Warzone’s largest map at 194km²).

Reaper Actual is helmed by industry vets Matthew Higby and Tramell Ray Isaac, both well known for their work on PlanetSide 2—famous for massive battles with up to 2,000 players and persistent worlds. While there’s no official release date yet, you can already sign up for early access on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
