Rematch: Already Over Five Million Players, But There’s a Lot to Do!

For example, there’s a feature that players have been waiting for. However, according to Sloclap, it will be weeks before it’s available, which is not good news.

Across all platforms, Rematch has now surpassed five million unique players. That’s a major milestone for Sloclap’s game—especially given that it launched less than a month ago—even though it’s still missing crucial features like crossplay support, which, according to a Sloclap tweet, will be absent for another six to nine weeks. That’s a long wait; a lot can change in a month and a half.

Just hours before launch, Sloclap informed players that Rematch would release without crossplay. The studio tried to have the feature ready for launch but decided too late to communicate the delay. Sloclap later apologized for the mistake, as Rematch launched with plenty of bugs and matchmaking issues—things the team prioritized fixing first—while stressing that crossplay functionality remains a top priority. In their latest developer update, Sloclap shared a number of features under development based on community feedback, and apologized for issues that some players are still experiencing, even though the game is in much better shape than a month ago.

This week, Rematch will get a patch enabling players to remap controller buttons, add colorblind options for accessibility, and squash a host of bugs. Netcode improvements are also on the way, though there’s no firm release date for those fixes. Sloclap’s plans include new ranked queues, improvements to keyboard and mouse controls, tools to report toxic players, regional server fixes, and overall matchmaking and ranking system updates. Some issues, like complaints about the current leaderboard structure, will take time and experimentation to address, and even then, not everyone will be satisfied.

While it’s great for Sloclap that Rematch had such a stellar debut month—with over 1 million units sold and more than 60 million hours played globally—none of that matters if they can’t get the problems under control. Hopefully, these fixes will start rolling out soon, and crossplay won’t keep players waiting another month and a half for the sake of the player base and matchmaking health.
