With Diablo 4 entering the latter half of Season 9, anticipation is growing for what Blizzard has planned for Season 10. Although Season 10 won’t begin until September 23, this is typically the point in the cycle when new seasonal changes start appearing on the PTR. However, the latest news confirms that Season 10’s details will not be revealed via a livestream, marking a potentially disappointing change for players.
Instead of a Season 10 PTR livestream, Blizzard will host a Sanctuary Sitdown Q&A on the game’s official Discord server, accompanied by a blog post outlining the changes. This will take place on August 14, giving fans a clearer picture of the season’s direction. While this new presentation method may seem minor to those less engaged with the Diablo 4 community, others see it as a possible indication that Season 10 will offer less new content than previous seasons.
The immediate concern for many upon hearing there won’t be a developer livestream is that there may not be enough content to warrant one. This could be partially true, as the 2025 roadmap has already revealed some of Season 10’s planned features, such as Chaos Powers – a seasonal mechanic following the recent trend of unique, time-limited abilities, much like Season 8’s Boss Powers or Season 9’s Horadric Spells. Given this familiarity, there may be less need for an in-depth livestream demonstration.
Perhaps more intriguing is the Infernal Hordes update, which could take a similar approach to Season 9’s Escalating Nightmares for Nightmare Dungeons by adding a new twist to an established feature. Details will likely surface during the Sanctuary Sitdown, though the absence of live gameplay footage suggests the update may not be particularly significant. Based on past trends, the earnable pet and IP collaboration will almost certainly be purely cosmetic, with the latter possibly being revealed later into the season – as was the case with the Berserk collab in Season 8.
While there may still be elements worth showcasing in a livestream, much of the new content could fit neatly into a blog post, depending on the depth of the Chaos Powers and Infernal Hordes changes. Diablo 4 has delivered a steady cadence of seasons since launch, with both highs and lows along the way. Even if Season 10 ends up being one of the lows, another high is likely just around the corner.
Diablo 4’s Roadmap for 2025 and Beyond
It’s possible that Season 10 is something of a “sacrificial lamb,” as much of the development team focuses on Diablo 4’s next expansion. A similar situation occurred prior to the release of Vessel of Hatred, when Season 5 was relatively underwhelming before Season 6 launched alongside the expansion to great acclaim. The 2025 roadmap ends with Season 10 and teases DLC 2 for 2026, suggesting this could simply be the calm before the storm.
