Frozen Nightmares and a New Power: Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Reveals Its Final Faction!

We now know the last faction of a legendary strategy-RPG series returning soon. The developers of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era have unveiled the Schism, the final faction that will debut with the game’s revival in the gaming world.

The board of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era is finally complete. The developers working to bring back this iconic IP — blending turn-based strategy and RPG elements — have revealed the final faction joining this revival of a PC gaming classic from its golden age.

The Schism faction is the latest creation of developer Unfrozen, and they’ve already shared the first details of this mysterious and menacing group. They’ll stand against the other five factions already confirmed for the saga that Ubisoft is preparing to bring back. Fans of Lovecraftian horror will have plenty to enjoy with them.

A Faction of Ice and Nightmare in Olden Era

We first learned of the Schism’s existence during last year’s Gamescom indie Showcase, but more juicy details have since surfaced. True to their name, the Schism are a breakaway sect from Alvar, the most powerful kingdom of Jadame, who chose to fight independently. They established their domain in the frozen mountains and icy ravines of the north, far from the gaze of other civilizations.

This allowed them to refine their combat and magical abilities without interference, with leaders capable of summoning hordes of nightmarish monsters. In gameplay terms, the Schism are designed as a control faction, specializing in disrupting enemies and bending rival units to their will. The latest trailer introduces their leaders and units, showing off both their economy and tactical approach.

Focused primarily on ranged combat but backed by powerful melee forces, the Schism can block enemy heroes from using spells or abilities, force rival units to attack each other, reposition enemies to their disadvantage, and weaken their stats. They’re clearly a control-heavy faction — and a nightmare for anyone facing them.

Still on Track for 2025

Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era has been in the works for some time, and the latest news confirms that the creators of Manor Lords are collaborating with the developers and publishers to help bring it to life. There’s still no exact release date, but all indications point to 2025 as the year fans will finally return to the battlefield.

Although the game was initially expected this summer, the team admitted in June 2025 that they needed more time to ensure the early access version would satisfy both longtime veterans of the saga and new players discovering it for the first time.
