The Witcher 4: Will It Feature Online Multiplayer Possibilities?

CD Projekt RED’s next big title might not limit itself to a single-player experience. While the studio explicitly mentioned Project Sirius, its reference to “future games” has sparked speculation among fans about potential multiplayer features in The Witcher 4. No details have been confirmed, but several possibilities are already being discussed.

CD Projekt RED first hinted at its multiplayer ambitions with Project Sirius, but during its investor Q&A, the studio used the phrase “future games,” leaving fans to wonder if this might also apply to The Witcher 4 or the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Though nothing is guaranteed, speculation about possible multiplayer modes took off immediately.

It may be hard to picture multiplayer in The Witcher 4, but the concept is not entirely unfeasible. The scarcity of Witchers in the lore might complicate things, but cooperative monster hunting is still a viable option. Beyond Ciri and Geralt, there are other Witchers in the world, as well as unnamed characters who could serve the multiplayer purpose.

A more plausible option is an online version of Gwent, the beloved card game from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. As a social hub, it would be a perfect fit for a multiplayer component in The Witcher 4. Although Gwent was released as a standalone game, its mechanics diverged from the mini-game’s charm. Allowing players to enjoy Gwent in its original form online would preserve authenticity while boosting replayability.

Another possibility is a lightweight feature that shows players the choices others made at key moments in the story. It wouldn’t alter gameplay directly but could provide an engaging layer of comparison, much like what Telltale’s episodic titles offered. Comparing decisions across the community could add extra depth to the narrative.

Still, CDPR’s statements remain vague, and they may not even refer specifically to The Witcher 4. If multiplayer does come into play, the studio will need to tread carefully so as not to undermine the single-player focus of the franchise. Since The Witcher 4 is still years away, there’s plenty of time for these details to become clearer.
